Meta has announced that starting February 2024, there will be a 30% additional charge for boosting posts on the Facebook and Instagram apps on iOS.
This surcharge affects some small business owners who frequently use the “boost post” feature on iPhones, as they will now have to pay Apple an extra 30% on top of the advertising cost before the 10% tax is applied. This policy has its roots in 2022, when Apple expanded the 30% surcharge to digital product purchases, including boosting posts. The new policy, unfortunately, doesn’t just affect Meta—it also impacts other social media apps on iOS that offer boosted posts.
However, Meta has provided guidance for its users on how to avoid paying the 30% Apple surcharge:
- Boost content via facebook.com: Use a web browser such as Chrome or Safari on a computer, smartphone, or iPad. Open facebook.com and click “boost post.”
- Add funds to your payment account:
Use Prepaid Funds to boost posts on the Facebook iOS app without incurring Apple’s service fee.
To do it on a computer or a mobile web browser:- Go to business.facebook.com
- Click Billing & Payment on the left-hand side, then select Payment Settings
- Add Prepaid Funds to your ad account to use for boosting posts
- Use Prepaid Funds on the iOS app to boost posts without Apple’s service fee
- Boost via Meta Business Suite: Download the Meta Business Suite app from the App Store or access it via a computer to manage content and boost posts without paying Apple’s service fee.
- Create ads via Meta Ads Manager: Download the Ads Manager app or access it on a computer to create ads directly.
In short, don’t worry about this 30% surcharge—there are still multiple ways to boost posts without paying an extra fee. Despite the complexity of the process, using these methods allows your business to save up to 30%
